G&T Craze is hitting the world

We have been informed of a brand new premium brand of tonic water called Fever-Tree. London-based founder's Tim Warrilow and Charles Rolls launched Fever-Tree in 2005. According to Warrilow, if drinkers are shelling out for expensive premium spirits (as is increasingly the case), it's only logical that the mixer is of equally high quality. One of Spain's specialized cocktail bars dedicated to the spirit Bobby Gin in Barcelona has been serving this premium mixer to it's hipper crowd. Mixologist everywhere are taking note and serving up delicious coctails like the Corredor Special in Bogotá - Colombia to it's clients.

Mexico City - The source for debauchery without the penance.

México, D.F.

By: Andrés Corredor

Part I
In this edition of Vagarumbeando Lifestyle we put the spotlight on Mexico City, one of the most pulsing and ambitious hotspots in the world; redefining the way urban conscious minded people live in Mexico.

Generally, when we travel we keep a tight agenda and therefore try to have a local contact to share our curiosity for the most iconic styles and the very latest trends. This time around we had the pleasure to share some unique experiences and perspectives with local Vagarumberos. Metropolitan areas like Mexico City are evolving and changing faster than the time it takes to develop, design and execute a master urban development plan. It is therefore a daunting task to share and highlight all the wonderful places worth visiting.

Historical Center - The sharpest contradictions occurred in the center of town. Here we witnessed society’s diversity and the more unitary agenda of the nation state. My guide for this part of the trip was Nueva Guía del Centro Histórico de México, the most inspirational and complete testimony that transcends the renovation of this historical part of town. The Zócalo or Plaza de la Constitución as its known today is the best place to start your tour. According to Fabrizio Mejía Madrid, who writes about the importance of this plaza, “The Zócalo is the definition of the “chilango pride”, everything fits, and nothing is spared". It has been a gathering place for Mexicans since Aztec times. The popularity of the historical center makes this one of the most iconic places to visit. If you have the time, I recommend you visit these three places: El Otro Río (República de Cuba 39 y 45) a traditional clandestine cantina with local bands playing thursday - saturday. Café de Tacuba (Bolívar 26) great place for lunch or coffee and the roof terrace of Centro Cultural de España (Guatemala 18) great indie music.

The city has a great public transport network. It has one of the most extended bike paths, or ciclovías in South America. It is an admirable task that is beginning to transform the sustainability of the city and the quality of life of its citizens. Travelers can operate public bikes, by showing two forms of identification for a period of three hours free of cost in one of the many kiosks across town. Moving on!

Condessa DF is considered one of the best boutique hotels in the city. One of our favorite vagarumberas recommended we check out it’s restaurant and try out it’s superior micheladas. So we did. Afterwards, we went for an early lunch, mexicans tend to make lunch plans between 2:00 and 3:00 PM. I recommend you try out one of the many taquerias near Plaza de España, a wonderful open area with a relaxing atmosphere. In the heart of Condesa you will find La Cerveceria (Vicent Suarez 38) this informal restaurant is a classic hangout. It has perhaps the best empanada with nutella of the entire planet. Nearby, you will find Libreria Porrua (Insurgentes Sur No. 357), it’s often in the abundance of the libraries and galleries that one can separate the great metropolitan cities.
